A Campaign Advisor (CA), formerly called a Loaned Executive, is an individual from our local community who becomes part of the United Way staff for three months during the fall United Way Campaign, typically from mid-August to mid-November.
Anyone and everyone! Many of United Way's most community-minded private and public sector organizations partners loan their best and brightest employees to United Way to be Campaign Advisors. These nominees often include management trainees, junior executives, organized labor, and recent college graduates. Other community partners generously sponsor a Campaign Advisor position with a financial contribution.
Internally, Campaign Advisors work with all United Way staff, but work most closely with the Resource Development Department. Externally, they work with Executive Campaign Chairs (often local CEOs) and Employee Campaign Leaders at local businesses and organizations that run United Way campaigns.
Campaign Advisors lend their expertise and energy to help United Way to improve customer relationships and contributions by managing a set number of existing workplace campaign accounts. They also forge new relationships with potential contributors in to order broaden the base of community giving. By doing so, Campaign Advisors help strengthen the United Way commitment to what matters in our community.
For the employer, this is a valuable and unique opportunity to develop an employee with a unique combination of management and people skills while contributing to the good of the community. The sponsoring company also gains the benefit of a more skilled and knowledgeable employee. The company is also able to enhance its marketing effort through recognition on our website as well as in numerous advertising and printed materials as a sponsor of the program.
"You get the unique opportunity of helping your local community while learning and refining business skills. For me, one of biggest skills was to perfect my public speaking ability. Having researched United Way's programs and services, and visiting local agencies, it became easier to articulate my ideas to an audience."
~ Brandon, Campaign Advisor in 2007 and 2009
"I always knew I wanted to help people, but didn't know exactly how. Being a Campaign Advisor taught me how to reach out and touch the lives of others. It gave me an opportunity to stand up and be a voice for all those who couldn't. I realized I could make a difference the day I met a group of women at a women's shelter. Looking around the room, you couldn't tell they were homeless. When one of the women stood up and hugged us and said than you and to tell everyone that donates thank you, it made me realize being a Campaign Advisor is about changing our community for the better and truly reaching the individual to make the whole community a better place. The experience of being a Campaign Advisor for United Way will stay with me forever."
~ Rita, Campaign Advisor in 2008
"Being a Campaign Advisor allowed me to meet a diverse group of people in my community that help bring about positive change. Being part of the change was very gratifying and I saw how we can all do a little more, and how it does make a huge differnece!"
~ Cybele, Campaign Advisor in 2009
