United Way of the Wine Country has been dedicated to improving lives locally for 50 years. Everyone deserves a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, income that can support a family through retirement, and good health. To create lasting change, United Way focuses on solving the underlying causes of common problems related to education, income and health. We are committed to achieving lasting solutions - not just quick fixes - for our entire community.
Thomas Sands is a 19-year veteran of the Wells Fargo Stagecoach and currently the Region Bank President for Northern California Region. His territory extends from Marin and Sonoma Counties up north to Humboldt County and east of Yolo County. He is responsible for $8.4 Billion in deposits, a network of six districts, 59 branches, and manages more than 800 Team Members.
Prior to his current role, Thomas was the former Area President of the San Francisco Market. He also previously held the positions of District Manager for 101 Empire in North Bay and Store Manager in the Sacramento area. He is known for building engaged, high-performing teams and his strong commitment to high-quality customer service.
Thomas studied at California State University Sacramento where he met his wife, Normell. They have been married for 21 year and have two children. The Sands family were directly impacted by the October 2017 wildfires, and after losing their home, they were forced to move to Novato for a time. Thomas credits his strong faith for helping him and the family make it through the tough time following the fires. They decided not to rebuild their home but have recently surpassed a huge milestone by moving into a beautiful home in Bennett Valley.
In his personal time, Thomas enjoys his bass boat and loves to take it out on Lake Sonoma and Clear Lake with friends and family. He loves to fish and enjoys wildlife and nature in general. The family enjoys vacationing together annually when they visit locations such as Mexico or Florida. A larger group of extended family and friends enjoy vacations together every two years. Last month, they embarked on a cruise with a group of 17 departing from Miami and sailing through the Bahamas.
As an active member of the community, Thomas has always placed an importance on giving back through volunteering and serving on numerous boards. His philanthropic activities include serving as a Board Member of Wells Fargo’s North Bay Community Advisory Board and Center of Arts. Thomas sits on the Committee for Inclusive and Resilient Recovery for North Bay Wildfires, American Red Cross, and the Contribution Council for Wells Fargo Greater San Francisco. In the past, he worked closely with the Saint Hope Academy as a Big Brother Mentor and as a football and basketball coach for the Windsor and Elk Grove leagues.
We thank Thomas for his valued service on our Board of Directors and for his key support of United Way of the Wine Country at Wells Fargo and beyond!
