United Way of the Wine Country has been dedicated to improving lives locally for 50 years. Everyone deserves a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, income that can support a family through retirement, and good health. To create lasting change, United Way focuses on solving the underlying causes of common problems related to education, income and health. We are committed to achieving lasting solutions - not just quick fixes - for our entire community.
As an integral part of United Way, Women United® unites the power of women to create impactful change in our community. We are a diverse community bound together by a powerful sense of belonging to each other, to the organization’s mission, and to the community we call home. Together, we invest our time, talent, and resources in early childhood education.
Education is a cornerstone for success in school, work, and life. We transform conditions for children in our community by investing in research-based programs such as: School Readiness Backpacks for pre-Kindergarten readiness, Schools of Hope to improve third grade literacy, Little Free Libraries, and Summer Reading Packs to help kids avoid the “summer reading slide”. Each year, Women United also sponsors the United Way Children’s Book Drive collecting thousands of books for kids in the community.
Each member will make an annual undesignated gift to United Way of the Wine Country of $1,000 or more. Women United members making an annual gift of $10,000 or more are invited to join the Tocqueville Society as a leader as well.
For members under 35, you can become a Women United member through the Step-Up program. Start with a step-up gift of $500 that incrementally increases over a three-year period to $1,000 annually while you enjoy membership benefits starting year one.
Please note there is no time commitment required with membership, your involvement and participation is up to you!

Women United is proud to host events to bring awareness of the importance of early childhood education and to raise funds to support United Way’s programs and services related to early childhood education. Reading Between the Vines has been our signature event since 2016 with almost $50,000 raised for area kids so far! We appreciate our sponsors, donors, and in-kind contributors who make this signature event possible.
On April 14, 2018, we are partnering again with the John Jordan Foundation and welcoming new partner CTE Foundation of Sonoma County as we present Reading Between the Vines 2018 at Jordan Vineyard & Winery. We partner to make a difference in education while building and placing Little Free Libraries in our community. These libraries will be built by local high school students, supporting hands-on learning and will be a convenient and free resource for children and families to obtain books while promoting education and literacy.
